We have a 4 year old adopted rescue beagle who is about to start his serious heart worm treatment. He is now strong and really rambunctious. On one hand, I'm hoping that will give him a better chance of survival. On the other, how do I keep him calm? He is not neutered, since that is yet another thing the vet recommended we hold off on until after the treatment. He is highly allergic to grass and despite my efforts to make him a house dog, he loves to escape. Any thoughts or advice from someone who has been through this would be greatly appreciated. He's a spoiled mess, but we love him.

Sunday our little beagle Jingo was in the sunroom. She screamed and came running/limping into the kitchen, scared to death.
Her leg was hurt but we couldn't see anything. Later that day, we noticed swelling on her left hock, right on the ball of it, swelled twice the size of the other one.
Sunday she did it again... neither time did we see what she did.

Monday my wife took her to the vet. On the steps into the vet, and again inside, she screamed in pain again. The vet did an x-ray, said nothing is broken or torn. He said she suffered some trauma... not likely something she could have done herself, he said (he doesn't see how crazy she can act, jumping and trying to "fly" ).
Bottom line is that it is like bursitis he said, caused by an injury/fall. He said to ice it and limit her activity, it should heal on it's own in 3-4 weeks.

Limiting her activity is tough, she's not quite two and wants to play all the time!

Anyone else have a Beagle who suffered this injury?

My 12 1/2 year old Beagle has recently lost the use of her rear legs. We took her to the vet where she stayed over night. She is now home on medications. Has this happened to anyone's Beagle? And have they recovered without surgery.? I only left her in the Vet's for one night because she is very uncomfortable around other dogs. At her age I don't want to put her thru the trauma of spinal surgery.

Today we took Eva to the dog park for her first visit. This park {first time for me too} was 95% rocky/sand/dirt. She had a great time and was there for at least an hour. Later when we got home I noticed she was limping slightly especially when going down the stairs. I discovered her front left paw pad had a small {peanut sized} area where the rough part was gone. No blood or debris. I cleaned it and put neosporin on it. Another site recommended Betadine. Her pads have always been very soft and smooth, thin almost. Suggestions as to how to heal this quickly and how to prevent from happening again?!!:(
