    Body odour in a beagle

Hey all, I'm a first time user here. We have Max - 1.5 yr old beagle with us since he's been 6 weeks old. Reasonably house-trained at home, very affectionate and incorrigibly naughty!

My issue is that Max starts smelling bad within 5-6 days after a thorough oat-shampoo wash and teeth brushing. Becomes difficult to bathe him every week. Is this typical of all beagles? Is there a solution for this or he just needs to be bathed every week?

    Would really appreciate anybody's thoughts...

my guys get a bath every month, they don't seem to get that stinky to me ( I might be used to their smell XP). I've read you should only give a dog a bath every month or so, so their oils have a chance to settle or something like that, course this might be a special case if he gets stinky after a 5 days, have you tried the doggy perfume sprays they have?

Well doggy sprays seem to have to be used everyday, and hence I dont think they are that useful and may be an expensive method in the long run. Anything I can add in his bath to keep him from smellin bad for long periods of time. I'm ok with his smell but my pregnant wife can't bear it .

Does it also have to do something with his diet?

I think it could be the diet.
I don't know what do you feed but usually dogs eat Science Diet smell bad.
I just bathe my dog once in two months and don't use any perfume spray because it makes everything worse. I also brush him daily and he mostly eats raw.

You're experiencing what many people call 'hound' smell. Everyone seems to have a different tollerance to it. My girlfriend can't stand it and I have to bathe my Beagle, Mattie, frequently. No matter what shampoo I use, the odor seems to return in about 3 or 4 dayss.

When we adopted Vazzle she was so very stinky no matter how clean we tried to keep her. Our vet suggested a food change and also adding Vitamin E to her food. No more smell! Science Diet was the food she was eating at the shelter so we had continued her on that - once we switched the stink was gone.

I think the Frito corn chip smell is pretty normal Molly and Vazzle don't smell but they have Frito feet.

Luna does smell sometimes.. But I think she enjoys rolling around in things....

I heard a lot of Beagles will have a bit of a Funk which is to do with hunting.. Luna seems to roll in things like, dead birds, etc.
