Six weeks might be a bit young. What I would do is take him or her everywhere you can. It's called socializing. Introduce them to new things, sounds, people (girls love puppies). Let him walk around in the grass at home. Remember one thing; the first time a dog does something it's a new experience, no matter what age. My 9-month-old beagle learned about crossing ice. But it was her first experience. At around eight weeks I took them all for a walk every day. We walked through grass, thickets, introduced them to brush piles, etc. They learned if the can't get under or over to go around. It all builds confidence and that is the goal. Keep you sessions short and try to have a plan and a goal. Prepare for the plan falling apart. Don't be in too bog of hurry. enjoy them while they are young. You'll have several years to hunt them. Get a good foundation of confidence and socialization under them. If I can help more, don't hesitate.

  2. How should I start to train my 6 week old beagle? Today I took him out and did a scent drag for the first time. I took a hot dog and rubbed a trail on the ground and put a piece at the end of the trail. He did pretty well but he sometimes lost interest what can I do to make him stay focused? Thanks.
