Within the last week, my dog has peed on the bed 2 times, in the same spot betwwen mine and BF's sides of the bed. Both times, it was when I had just went to bed and my bf had also just got up to go the bathroom at the same time. She should be going into heat anytime now, as it is time. We have had her about 6 months, and have not had her fixed yet but plan too soon. We have been hesitant to do so because she was apparently mistreated quite badly by her former owners and are afraid of the trauma getting fixed would put her thorugh. We have really had to work with her a ton to get her to come out of her shell. She is mainly the BF's dog, and I am just a packmate. So not sure if this is a territotial thing. Before she peed, she scratched on the bed and then squated. Any ideas?
Was she sleeping when she is peeing? Badger has peed the bed twice in the year and half we have had him both times he was sound asleep and unaware he was peeing.
I called the vet and said if it becomes more frequent to bring him in as it could have been a bladder infection, turns out it wasn't for Badger I'm still unsure why he has done it twice but I have been told its not an uncommon thing.
Both our previous beagle and the one we have now peed on our bed a couple of times when they were younger. It's hard to get into a dog's head, but in both our cases, it seemed to be related to the dogs being distressed about something — my wife being away from home, a thunder storm, unfamiliar people in the house, things like that.
Putting on my amateur dog psychologist hat for a moment, I assume it was related somehow to the dogs trying to establish some ownership/belonging or sense of security in the part of the house (the bed) that represented the heart of the den — the place where the pack sleeps. Then again, who knows; we're not dogs and they never answer when asked for explanations.
In any case, neither dog repeated this behavior after they grew into adulthood (which is very good).
