Easier said than done....just the sight of the toothbrush and toothpaste will make our dogs go on disappearing acts.
It's been said though that giving dry kibbles is better than moistened or wet food because the latter can get stuck in the gums and may become a good breeding ground for bacteria leading to bad odors emanating from the mouth.
I've read that foul-odor from the mouth can be telltale signs of much more serious problems affecting the stomach and other parts of the gastro-intestinal tract.
Thus regular dental checkups and good dental hygiene are very important to ensure that our dogs are free from any life-threatening diseases.
It could be a number of things as mentioned here.....diet, dental issues or other underlying digestive issues. Try looking into a dog food that contains probiotics in it.
Occasionally, my dogs have had bad breath, but thankfully it really doesn't last long. I've never done anything to counteract it, except waited for it to pass.
Some dogs really do not like to have their teeth brushed. I have never done it for any of my dogs. Just kept them on a dry food diet with the occasional raw hide.
has anyone tried dental floss on their pets? there are dogs who allow their owners full access to their mouth and flossing can do wonders in removing food caught between the teeth.
