Badger is now 1, and I have been thinking lately it would be nice if he had a friend around 2 or 3 years maybe another Beagle to keep each other company.

My question is: Is having 2 Beagles easier because they are there to keep each other company and keep each other busy or am I asking for double the trouble...LOL

Hi, I have always had two dogs, but never two beagles!!!!! Our springer was 4 when we got our beagle Barney. They were best of friends, and so fun to watch them together. Yes, they do keep each other company. Barney died 6 weeks ago (I am still heart broken) Maty (our springer) was so sad and wouldn't eat. We did get a new beagle puppy, "Simon". It's taken Maty awhile to decide he's ok, but I do think she's coming around. Maty is 15 which isn't a great age to bring a new puppy into the house. Anyway...YES< I would definitely recommend getting another beagle! They are just the most loving loyal dogs!

I have 2 Beagles a standard tricolor(Sammy) and a Lemon Beagle(Max) Sammy is 6, and Max is 7. I can't say they are easier but they like to hunt together a lot. They still hunt alone also. If one howls though the other has to check it out. I had Sammy about 3 years before I got Max as a rescue dog and the first 3 months there were some fights just to settle who's running the show. I think it ended in a draw because it's been 2 years now and they play together and get along great. I fenced in 4 acres of brush and brush piles using 4 foot high woven wire fence with some gates. I can open my back door and let them out to run and do what they want. They sit on the back steps when they are ready to come in.
I live in WI and it gets cold so they are indoor when they want to be and at night. There is a dog house outside in case we are not home and it rains or they want to warm up. Some times at night (in the house) one gets howling and the other will start also, but for the most part if they get enough exploring during the day they sleep well at night. I like 2 Beagles.

Hi BadgersMom.

We have two beagle girls, litter sisters. I found that with our first (Bonnie) she was really needy and would cry when we got home and wouldn't settle until we picked her up and nursed her (just like a real baby). When we picked up the second from the breeder (Pearl), Bonnie was all of a sudden little miss independent. From our experience two is better than one. They do everything together, like two peas in a pod. We even have one dog bed that doesn't get used because they prefer to sleep on one bed together.

The good thing about having two is that they actually roll around play fighting for most of the day which wears them out. And being pack dogs I think they love the extra company when Hubby and I aren't around. But in saying that, they do sometimes do naughty things together as well.

And as JerryGov said, when one starts baying the other has to start and/or check it out too.

All in all, I really did notice how much better off Bonnie was when we bought Pearl home, but that could be because they are litter sisters.

When we were getting my beagle everyone warned us saying they are destructive, dig heaps etc.
But when my Mum went to pick Bugsy up; the breeder also had Jack Russell Pups & we got one of them as well (both were the last of their litter). & I must say was the BEST decision ever; Bugsy & Spencer (the jack russell) are the best of friends. Bar a few chewing incidents when they were puppies there hasn't been any major problems, but I HIGHLY believe because we got another pup at the same time (no matter if it was also a beagle or not). That we avoided the typical beagle issues most go through; as Bugsy had someone to occupy himself with. This is my opinion anyway :D
