My 1yr old Beagle always seem to have dirty ears. It also smells really bad. I try to clean them as much as possible, but he really do not like it. It takes me forever to try and clean them. Any tips on how to clean his ears without him fighting it?
I would say to get some soft lint free gauze and gently wipe the ear area. If he is really resists and the odor you mentioned -I would have him checked to make sure there is no infection.
yes, perhaps there might indeed be an infection because you said there is a bad smell. better bring your dog to the vet before an infection affects the middle or inner part of the ear which has much more serious implications.
i got a dog once who never allowed me to touch his ears because he had an awful experience when he had a serious infection in the middle ear. he hated being touched near his ears. so i had to bring him regularly to the vet for ear cleaning and that spells $$$ =(
Our vet recommended the 100% natural Pet formula pre-moistened Pet Wipes. They are made with Aloe Vera and Vitamin E. My Beagle likes it I usually massage his ear while I am doing it as well. I clean them once a week and it seems to keep them clean.
oftentimes it is best to have your dog get used to having its ears cleaned regularly. Start young. I was quite successful with my dog because I give him his favorite treat after I clean his ears.
I've started to clean Hanna's ears and so far she's been accepting about the whole thing. Perhaps she craves the cuddle and TLC that goes with every cleaning session.
