The very first thing is to stay up to date with the ever expanding pet food and treat recall.

Don't buy dog food from walmart......

Look for quality dog food at Feed Stores and Pet Food Stores and on-line pet food suppliers.

In a word since so many brands are covered with the Diamond recall I would recommend this one: http://www.annamaet.com/

The recall list is available at http://www.petfood.com/. No dry foods are included. If you are feeding pedigree dry you are not involved in the recall. Dogs have gotten sick from the recalled foods and I would not feed my dog anything that is on the list.
