I'm from Eastern Ohio and have 4 Beagles. I hunt 3 of the 4 but they are all family pets and me and the wife love them all like kids.
One of the pups Lilly Mae a beautiful Lemon was hit by a car last winter and had her Hip Joint removed, a leg pinned and some pelvic bone damage so unfortunately as much as she wants to hunt with her brothers and Mom, I have to restrict her to shorter runs and a special hunt close to home every now and then. Don't think she will have be able to make a full day hunt but she loves to go.
Maggie Mae, the mother was a rescue. 3 Years ago she showed up with her mother on a friends porch. Nobody would claim the mother or Pup and I took her in since My father had started training a beagle for hunting about a year earlier and I thought it would be a great way to spend more time with my Dad. Best decision I ever made. I can't even count how many rabits we have taken on these dogs in the last couple years and as pets go, I do believe beagles must make the best companion of any dog.
