Hi robert , welcome to the forum.
I would try a scent drag with dead rabbit to see if your Beag follows the pattern you lay out. I am also a fan of pack hunts with seasoned dogs for training.
You may want to pm member beaglechaser on this forum as he is into training Beagles in a big way...
