I called the vet today but he won't be available until tomorrow. However I spoke with the secretary and she said she is almost positive that he does not start low then go up on the dosage. I will call him and find out the solution he uses tomorrow and post that info on this thread
Ivermectin cattlefor use on dog demodectic mange
I have a 3 month old puppy that has just been diagnosed with demodectic mange. She weighs 13 lbs and the vet gave me enough ivermectin to treat for 14 days. However, I was told the 1% ivermectin for cattle could also be used at a rate of 1/10 of cc per 10 lbs by mouth. I was reading the article here about using this however the article noted using it as an injection. My local feed store has this 1% for cattle in a 50 ml bottle and I was wondering if I do this 1/10cc per 10 lbs orally how often should the does be given? The article said the injection should be given once every seven days... is this true when given orally as well? I only ask because the solution given by my vet was cut with mineral oil and he instructed it to be given daily. Im really concerned because I know ivermectin can be poisonous if overdone. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated as it would save me tons of money from having to go to the vet every 2 weeks. Thanks!

I spoke with my vet today and hes being very difficult. He does not approve of me using the ivermectin for cattle use. He said he could not make any recommendation unless he mixed the solution himself and he pretty much refused to give me the dosage info on what he used. His words to me were to "use directions on the box" I believe he is reluctant to give me any info due to a liability. I told him i was not asking him to make a recommendation on what to mix only what he himself had mixed but to no avail. You said you have used between 300-600mcg/kg as successful treatment so if I use the 1% cattle ivermectin how do i need to dose. Thanks!

Watch for signs of secondary skin infection : topical anti-biotic or oral anti-biotic may be needed. Consult Vet………
Medicated shampoo or anti-fungal will help, always use luke warm or tepid water and never hot as it will make dog itch worse.
Benadryl will help itching : dose 0.5mg to 2mg per pound dog weight every 12 hrs..
Do not use Hydrocortisone cream or any topical with steroids…..

thanks for the information it helped clarify a lot. Do you recommend dosing daily for 2 weeks and then waiting a specific time to start a new regimen or just continue dosing until clear skin scrapes are found?
