I have had beagles with stomachs of steel. This beagle, now 2 ½ has had a problem from day one with people food. It is the strangest thing and the vet has been of no use; granted they have not seen him in this actual state. He will have human food – even just a wee bit – and the next day he is lackadaisical, will walk into walls because his equilibrium is off and looses control of his legs. We need to pick him up, and he usually urinates himself – sometimes he vomits. He is shaky and it is almost like he is having a seizure. It takes several hours to a day or so to get better. This can be a piece of beef as small as a fingernail. Now, he can have water based veggies with no problem – like a carrot, lettuce or celery. Has anyone ever had or heard of any such thing? Vet says he should be able to handle people food… No kidding!

Have you tried raw veggies like carrot sticks? Carrot sticks are supposed to be very healthy and good for dogs.

I can give him "water based" veggies. And one fruit.... watermelon. Almost anything else make him lose control & walk into walls. It is so sad to see him that way. It passes over time. but I fear one day he won't "come out of it".

What did you feed him for 2 1/2 years?

We give him

regular dog food

. But if we try to give him people food; or worse - if he gets his paws on most people food is when there are issues.

Food allergy maybe, what does the vet say?
This is so strange usually dogs get allergy when eat dog food..

I would stick to the dog food that works for him and stop giving him things that make him sick. Be ever so careful not to leave "people food" where he can get to it. His life may depend on it.
