Hello - I re-homed an 8 year old male beagle (Billy) in August. He has been having some odor and itching issues. We have taken him into the vet and they had him on Ketoconazole 100mg once a day for 30 days. About half way through the prescription, his odor and itch was getting better. The odor and his itching were almost non-existing by the end of the prescription. He has been off the prescription about a week and the odor, his itching, constant licking of his front paws is back. We just noticed also that he wants to eat grass, he also did this before he was on the medicine.

When I had taken him into the vet, he just assumed that Billy had some sort of yeast infection on his skin.

Has anyone had this issue with their Beagle?

Thank you in advance for any help!
Tara

When we rescued one of my beagles from the shelter she smelled and was oily and itchy. Even if she had a bath she would be all stinky again. We started adding salmon oil to her food and then switched her from Science Diet (that's what the shelter was feeding here) to Fromm adult dog food. Her coat is gorgeous, no smelling and no itching. Food can make a huge difference.
