I'm a newbie to the site and apologize in advance if this is a stupid question or I should search before asking. I box-trapped a a cottontail over the weekend and would like to preserve the skin to use as a drag to assist in training a pup I'm getting in the spring. Should the skin be salted/stretched or frozen (or both) to best preserve it?
Thanks.

olddogrib ,
Welcome to Beagles Unlimited.

First , there are no stupid questions , and much of what we do to train our hunting dogs is based on what works best for your dog. As for the rabbit that you will use for scent work , I would freeze the skin or whole rabbit in a gallon jug. When training just take rabbit out of freezer , hook up drag line and go to work. When finished , the rabbit will probably still be partly frozen and you can return to gallon and freezer.

Please read this helpful article. http://www.beaglesunlimited.com/training/starting-beagle-pups-rabbits

Good luck with training work.
