Hello!
My name is Jonah, I am 28 years old. I have a 13 year old Beagle (will be 13 in April). He sleeps most of the day, and except for the usual Beagle age issues, and a heart murmur, I have had two vets tell me nothing is wrong with him. Yet, it seems that every time he is awake all he seems to do is Bark, moan and wine. We feed him 2x a day, and he is walked once a week down to the local dog park (where again, once he gets down there normally, all he does is plop down and howl). It's getting to the point where we can no longer take him down to the park because the neighborhood area is complaining.
Does anyone have any suggestions??

Thank You,
Jonah

Hi. It sounds to me like he is in pain and also he gets tired at the park but wants to participate so he is howling. How long is that walk he is taking? You could try giving him a baby aspirin and see if that helps. If you don't use a harness you might want to switch to one, they alleviate the pull on the neck and back area. At the park he might be howling from frustration that he can't do more that he is physically able.

Re

As I mentioned, he is not in pain. I have had 2 vet's do full physical examinations and they both said the same thing.
He is already on a harness.
The walk itself takes about 10 mins to the park, and 15 mins back (depending on the amount of activity).

Sometimes the hardiest dogs go into mental health issues. Had a friend's young dog stop trailing a rabbit by a lake and turned and went into the lake and swam out until he drowned out quite aways. It was traumatic for the older owner and the dog was in perfect health and had a great environment. Hard to get away from the fact the dog is miserable, so in compassion I'd put him down. The first beagle here was part of a healthy litter with none of his littermates having any such problems
